- Add - A monster that has joined an existing battle.
- Adjacent - The smallest area of effect in Guild Wars, equal to 156 inches from the target.
- Adrenaline - Some Warrior skills require the character to build up adrenaline before the skill becomes active.
- AFK - Away from Keyboard; meaning that the player is away from his computer. In the Friends window in Guild Wars, you can set your status to AFK.
- Aggro - This occurs when monsters have noticed you and are attacking.
- AL - Armor Level
- AoE - Area of Effect - Refers to damage that is dealt to a group, rather than a single target.
- Attack - A melee or projectile skill.

- Damage - The loss of a character's health.
- Dazed - A condition that causes spells to take twice as long to cast and to be easily interrupted.
- Debuff - A Hex Spell that reduces a character's abilities or skills.
- Deep Wound - A condition that reduces a character's maxmimum health by 20% and makes healing spells 20% less effective.
- Diseased 0 A condition that causes health degeneration and can be spread to nearby creatures.
- DOT - Refers to damage that is continued to be felt, over a period of time.
- Elite - A type of skill. Only one Elite Skill can be in a character's skill bar at a time. The only way to obtain Elite Skills is by using a Signet of Capture on a boss monster.
- Enchantment - A spell that has a positive effect on a character.
- Energy - Energy is needed to cast spells and use some skills.
- Exhaustion - A condition that temporarily lowers maximum energy.
- Farming - The act of repeatedly clearing an area and/or killing monsters in order to get gold, items or weapons.
- Glyph - A type of skill that enhances the next spell that is cast.
- Health - A measure of a character's life, expressed in the number of Hit Points.
- Holy damage - Deals double damage to undead and ignores armor.
- HP - A character's Hit Points, which is a measure of health.
- In the location - This is the largest area of effect in Guild Wars, and is equal to 312 inches.
- Kiting - A player tactic in which a player stays out of aggro range by running from a monster, while still causing damage to it.
- Knockdown - A condtion caused by some skills that knocks the target to the ground. When knocked down, the target cannot move, use any skills, or cast any spells.
- LFG - Looking for a group.
- LFM - Looking for more.
- Melee- Close-ranged combat with a sword, hammer, or axe.

- Nature Ritual - A set of Ranger skills that involves manipulating the environment to create an enchantment that affects allies and foes.
- Nearby - An area of effect that is equal to 240 inches in Guild Wars.
- Nerf - An expression used to indicate that something has been made less effective, quite often used when referring to skill changes.
- Newbie - A new, inexperienced player. Also used to imply that a player is not very good at playing.
- NPC - A Non-Player Character in the game, controlled by the game software.
- Pet - An animal NPC controlled by a Ranger character.
- Preparation - A skill that temporarily makes attacks more effective in a specific way.
- Poisoned - A condition that causes health degeneration.
- PST - Please Send Tell. this means that the person speaking wants to talk to you via a whisper.
- Pulling - An attack strategy in which one of the characters in a party heads out and leads one or more of the monsters back to the party so that the party can attack. This prevents too many monsters from attacking at once.
- PvE - Player vs. Environment. Combat between players and computer controlled opponents.
- PvP - Player vs. Player. Combat between players.
- Resurrect - To bring a character back to life. This can be done with Resurrection Signets, certain spells or skills.
- Shout - A motivational phrase that benefits your party, and negatively affects nearby enemies.
- Signet - A Signet is a skill that does not require energy to use.
- Spell - A skill that results in an instant effect.
- Stack - A number of identical items placed in a single inventory slot, to conserve space. Only certain items can be stacked.
- Stance - A position or movement that provides a battle advantage.
- Tank - A melee character that generally attacks monsters first and can take a lot of damage.
- Target ally - Indicates that the skill affects any ally (including yourself) you target by clicking. Target can be a party member or other ally.
- Target corpse - Indicates that the skill affects any corpse you target by clicking on it.
- Target creature - Indicates that the skill affects any living creature you target by clicking on it.
- Target enemy - Indicates that the skill affects any enemy you target by clicking on it.
- Target other ally - Indicates that the skill affects any ally (other than yourself) you target by clicking on it.
- Target party member - Indicates that the skill affects the party member you target by clicking on it.
- Touch - A skill that requires direct contact with the target.
- Trap - A Ranger skill that you set and leave for your enemy to trigger.
- Uber - German slang for 'super', originally meaning 'over'. In the case of gaming, it refers to something being exceptionally powerful, especially weapons.
- Vendor Trash - A useless or worthless item that only a vendor/merchant would buy.
- Weakness - A condition that causes the base damage of your attacks is reduced by 66%.
